The Callisto Protocol opened to great hype the as the game was tipped as Dead Space’s spiritual successor. However, the response post-launch has been quite mixed with major criticism about the performance, especially on PC.
The Callisto Protocol PC Performance Issues
While the game mostly does what’s asked of it, the performance let’s be honest is straight-up bad. This is especially a recurring problem on PC. Even if you have decent hardware, frame-pacing issues and stuttering seem like a regular trend. These problems, in short, have ruined the entire experience of gamers who had been waiting months for the game.
The problem seems to be due to the shader compilation issue with Unreal Engine 4. This isn’t new and has affected games in past, so shifting to Unreal Engine 5 in the future will help the developers a lot. It’s really annoying to face all the stuttering when you can just ask the users to wait for the shaders to compile as some titles already do.
However, the performance on consoles especially the PlayStation 5 seems to be satisfactory. And the PC performance is also something that can be fixed by a day 1 patch update. And thankfully that’s exactly what the developers are doing.
Striking Distance Studios is Addressing the PC Performance Issues
Yes, the games should be optimized at launch but it’s good to see when the developers acknowledge the problems. Striking Distance Studios has announced that they are aware of the PC performance issues and they are indeed working on a patch to resolve them.
The patch according to the Tweet will be live in a few hours and will improve performance and a few new updates. The Callisto Protocol was a game everyone was waiting for and with the issues, it turned out to be a major disappointment. Now with the patch, we really hope all the issues get resolved and we can have the experience we paid for. But till then, if you want a short-term fix you can try these changes in settings.
