Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are spawning behind walls

Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet can spawn behind walls, rendering them invisible to players, it’s been discovered.

As posted to Twitter by RyanWasTakenToo (and spotted by Nintendo Life), it’s been discovered that Pokémon can spawn in the walls of some areas, since the game doesn’t properly register these areas as outside of the playfield.

This means that if an ultra-rare shiny Pokémon spawns behind one of these walls, it will be invisible to the player, unless they manipulate the camera in a specific way to find them.

Shiny Pokemon are incredibly rare versions of normal Pokemon with special coloring. Introduced in Generation 2, shiny Pokemon are still hard to find, though modern Pokemon games make it a bit easier with a few methods.

Shiny Pokemon can appear almost anywhere in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Unlike in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, however, Shiny Pokemon no longer make a distinctive sound when they appear in the overworld, making it slightly harder to find them  under normal circumstances, let alone when they’re appearing in walls.

In VGC’s Pokémon Scarlet and Violet review, we said the games were the most feature-rich Pokémon titles in years but suffered from technical issues.

“The huge expansion and changes to the single player campaign are great, the size of the world and the joy of exploration are the best in the series, and the new Pokemon and battle mechanics introduced all sing,” we wrote.

“However, it’s just impossible to shake the thought of how much better the game would feel if it was on more powerful hardware, or simply ran acceptably on Switch.”
