Electronic Arts has reportedly cancelled a spin-off title for its Apex Legends and Titanfall IP.
As reported by Bloomberg, the game – codenamed TFL or Titanfall Legends – was meant to be a single-player experience set in the world of the aforementioned franchises. This project was initially hinted at by designer Mohammad Alavi back in July 2021, though he left developer Respawn Entertainment in early 2022.
“We’re developing a brand new single-player adventure from Respawn Entertainment,” Alavi said in 2021.
“We’re a small but ambitious team with a history of dreaming big and making splashes.”
Titanfall Legends’ team of around 50 people are reportedly being moved to different positions within the company.
There hasn’t been a single-player title in the Titanfall franchise since 2016’s Titanfall 2. That game launched directly between Battlefield One and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and as such did not sell that well, though it has gone on to have some cult appeal.
Apex Legends was a surprise release in February 2019 and has made EA more than $2 billion in the four years since.
This news comes in the wake of EA closing the mobile iteration of Apex Legends, as well as Battlefield Mobile.
