The ‘Dark Souls of X’…? Yeah, we’ve heard it many times. But Rain World is certainly the Dark Souls of platforming! Today marks the release of this fast-paced and frantic survival platformer, as Rain World on Xbox launches, alongside the Downpour expansion on all formats.
Dog Eat Dog World
Releasing today on Xbox, the shear brutality of Rain World has been enjoyed by thousands of Steam players since 2017, followed by those on PlayStation and Switch platforms. This has allowed the game to be awarded a ‘Very Positive’ review base over on Steam.
You will be playing as a slugcat, isolated from its family and all alone in this dangerous world. However, like every animal here you must find something to eat, and strength certainly isn’t your forte. This slugcat is a sly little thing, and stealth will be your best friend, as you sneak up on other creatures to take them down, bouncing across the screen like a headless chicken.

Occasionally you will be able to join the party as two animals are already fighting, making things even easier for you. Of course, the other side of the coin is where some of the more ravenous, larger creatures look to take a bite out of you!
The game is also playable with up to four local co-op players, if you wish to explore the joys of Rain World with friends and family!
Downpour DLC
In addition to the base game of Rain World releasing today, players can also get their hands on the Downpour DLC, which first launched elsewhere in 2019.
This is more of the same classic Rain World action, with the most notable addition being that of slugcat variants. Over time, the slugcat has evolved, allowing players to take on different forms. Each form will have unique abilities that switch up gameplay significantly, such as the explosive Artificer and aquatic Rivulut.
