Movies that were brilliantly shot in one location: Kaun? to Bheja Fry

A movie can be set anywhere – a haunted house, a small town or multiple scenic locations. But the most fascinating movies are those set in a single location. Setting a film within the confines of one place forces filmmakers to get creative and it makes way for some brilliant titles.

One of the best examples of films set in a single location is Kaun? The suspense thriller starring Urmila Matondkar and Manoj Bajpayee takes place at a home. It is a smart film that keeps escalating the tension leading up to a plot twist you won’t see coming. Another film that takes place in a home is Bheja Fry. The comedy film starring Vinay Pathak, Rajay Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey and Milind Soman is largely shot in one flat. In spite of a small budget, the film manages to be one of the most delightful comedies.

Vinay Pathak has also featured in a one-location film that packs in a family drama, a humanitarian crisis and a life-affirming story in one home. Chintu Ka Birthday which also stars Tillotama Shome and Seema Pahwa is an emotional rollercoaster and an underrated gem.

Yaadein is a black-and-white film that follows a man who comes back to an empty home to find that his wife and son aren’t there. He then goes on to reflect on his life and his regrets. Sunil Dutt produced, directed and starred in the film. Nargis Dutt was the only other actor in the film.

And these aren’t the only films that made full use of their settings. The list includes Raincoat, Badla and others. Here’s a list of movies that were shot in one location:
