Mortal Kombat Fans Discuss Their Favourite Version Of Sub-Zero

Mortal Kombat fans are discussing their favourite version of Sub-Zero based on his design, moveset, outfit, and personality, with a lot of love specifically going to his Deception iteration.

When it comes to iconic Mortal Kombat characters, your mind will likely jump to one of two characters – Scorpion or Sub-Zero. Although Scorpion is undoubtedly the series’ poster boy and most recognisable character, his rival Sub-Zero is just as iconic and beloved as he is. Mortal Kombat fans are showing their love for the Lin Kuei ninja by discussing which version of him is the best that we’ve seen so far.

Over on the Mortal Kombat subreddit, Redditor East-Ferret-130 opened the conversation by asking other Mortal Kombat fans what their favourite version of Sub-Zero is and revealing that theirs is the iteration we see in Mortal Kombat 11. They note that their favourite is Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat 11 due to how it captures the ninja aesthetic, his creative use of ice in his moveset (minus the ice clone), and because his personality in that game solidifies him as the grandmaster.

Although the conversation on Sub-Zero supremacy started with a lot of love for his modern incarnation, the comments section seems to have a lot of love for the old Sub-Zero. In regard to Sub-Zero’s design, there’s a clear winner in this Reddit thread – Sub-Zero’s Shredder-esque look from Mortal Kombat: Deception. Several fans point out this look as being his best look yet, with some calling it “unmatched” and others saying that it’s the best “forever and always”.

Another popular choice is Sub-Zero from Deadly Alliance. One of the top-rated comments comes from Redditor Garlador, who says that design is the best one thanks to the blue scar, ice arms, cryo mask, and the dragon medallion, a design which they say “hasn’t been topped”. They also give a shoutout for Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, which isn’t something I ever expected to hear.

There’s also a lot of love for Sub-Zero’s appearance in Injustice 2, with some Redditors calling that version of the character the “coolest” thanks to his design and moveset. In fact, one Redditor notes that the Injustice designs for both Sub-Zero and Scorpion are their favourite, which is quite surprising considering how different they are from the main versions of the character.

Sadly, it looks like there’s not much appreciation for the classic versions of Sub-Zero in the thread, as most of the attention appears to be going to the 3D and reboot eras of the character. Still, there are at least a few mentions of Kuai Liang’s maskless appearance in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, which was initially quite a big change for the character.
