Masahiro Sakurai offers a deep dive into Smash Bros. Brawl

Masahiro Sakurai is back with another installment in his game development video series. This time around, he’s shared a video that fits into the ‘Game Concepts’ category.

Sakurai says that when he went independent, it put the future of the Smash series in question. Sakurai promised to discuss how he came to assemble a team to make Smash Bros. Brawl another time, but today, he’d like to focus on the planning and game concepts that went into creating the game.

Smash Bros. Brawl had to follow Smash Bros. Melee, a fan-favorite entry in the franchise. Doing so is no easy task, but Sakurai had a few unique ideas, twists and tweaks to help give Brawl its own feeling while still staying recognizable to longtime fans.
