Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, a remaster of the classic RPG based on character building and exploration, has officially delayed the Fatesworn expansion for Nintendo Switch. Originally expected this year, a new thread from the game’s official Twitter feed cites the need for time to polish up. Fatesworn is still in “the final stages of development”:
Publisher THQ Nordic has stated that the delay shouldn’t last too long, reinforcing that the expansion is “almost done” when replying to a concerned fan:
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is notably expansive, with unusual depths of lore thanks to the involvement of prolific author R.A. Salvatore. This complex history really bolstered the simple mechanics of the game, adding heft and intrigue to a narrative that is mainly driven by combat. It makes every interaction and battle feel more tactile and meaningful.
A port for the Nintendo Switch only just released last year, so fans are disappointed. But the devs were honest about their efforts to deliver the DLC on time, so the players responded with support and positivity.
The Fatesworn DLC is hardly a traditional expansion, because it continues the game’s ambitious campaign. The mythology in Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning invites an equally vast DLC, which was built to add eight more hours of storytelling. That’s longer than some core campaigns, even in the RPG genre.
So, that’s why any delay for Fatesworn is totally justified. There’s an extraordinary amount of content, and it needs to match the expectations set by the base game’s remaster. Otherwise, it’ll feel really out of place, and probably underperform. Further, the Fatesworn PC remaster only just released last year, so the devs likely had less time to work on porting it.
