Nick Cannon really had us there for a second. On March 7, the father of 12 announced plans to star in “the mother of all game shows,” a shocking new series titled “Who’s Having My Baby?” Hosted by comedian Kevin Hart, the show’s premise was pitting single women against one another to choose the mother of Cannon’s next child. In the accompanying promo video, Hart excitedly tells Cannon, “You’re gonna get some contestants that wanna have your baby!” as several ladies walk on stage in front of a studio audience. The teaser claimed the series would release this spring on E!
If the concept sounds too absurd to possibly be real, that’s because it is. We’re relieved to report that “Who’s Having My Baby?” is an elaborate troll, despite E!’s attempts to promise they’re “def not kidding around” about it on Twitter. The hoax was executed to drum up interest in Cannon and Hart’s new series E! series “Celebrity Prank Wars,” which they announced on March 8. So yes, the women in the faux trailer were hired actors, and no one will be competing to bear Cannon’s offspring — at least not on screen.
The joke caused quite the stir on social media, starting when Cannon first teased the announcement on Twitter on March 6. “EXPECT some big news tomorrow… ,” he wrote, leading many to believe he was expecting another child. Tons of people were duped and thought the series was real, as evidenced by the impassioned chatter that spread following the fake teaser. “how is this legal?” one person commented on Cannon’s Instagram, while another tweeted, “Making children w/ multiple women is a gameshow now? This is a mockery of women and children.”
Set to premiere on April 6, “Celebrity Prank Wars” will feature stars scheming and carrying out over-the-top pranks against one another, with Cannon and Hart deciding on a winner. Celebrity participants include Tiffany Haddish, Ludacris, Taraji P. Henson, Joel McHale, Chance the Rapper, T.I., Anthony Anderson, Brie Bella, and more
The early April Fools’ prank comes just a few months after Cannon welcomed a daughter named Halo Marie with Alyssa Scott, his 12th child and fifth one born in 2022 alone. He also shares children with Abby De La Rosa, Bre Tiesi, LaNisha Cole, Brittany Bell, and Mariah Carey.
