Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi 4’s Code Name Is Reportedly “Sparking Zero”

The new Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi game is reportedly being developed under the code name “Sparking Zero”, which could potentially end up being its name overseas.

Last week, Bandai Namco finally announced the one thing that Dragon Ball fans have been wanting to see over the past decade – a brand-new Budokai Tenkaichi game. Beyond the fact that Super Saiyan Blue Goku is going to be in the game, we currently know very little about it. In fact, we don’t even know what its name is going to be, with Budokai Tenkaichi 4 simply being an assumption from fans.

Bandai Namco might not have confirmed a name right now, but an insider might have revealed what the game is going to be called overseas. According to a removed video from YouTuber Marty_japan (thanks DBSChronicles), the new Budokai Tenkaichi game is being developed under the code name “Sparking! Zero!”.

For those who aren’t aware, overseas the Budokai Tenkaichi series is known as “Sparking!”, with the second game being called “Sparking! Neo!” and the third being “Sparking! Meteor!”. With this in mind, it tracks that the new game would also be called Sparking in Japan, although the use of “Zero” is interesting.

Although DBSChronicles and Marty_japan point out that this is just a code name right now and isn’t guaranteed to be the final title, it’s worth noting that previous Dragon Ball games have had much less refined code names. For example, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was developed under the name “Project Z”, which was nowhere near what it ended up being called. Sparking Zero is a much more fitting name that makes sense for the series, so it’s possible that’s what it’ll end up being called.

As for what that means for the game’s name everywhere else, it’s obvious that it’ll continue being called “Budokai Tenkaichi” as the end of the trailer even makes reference to that title. Whether it’ll end up being called Budokai Tenkaichi Zero isn’t clear right now, as the titles have generally just been simple numbers in the West, but it is a possibility.
