The first 18 minutes of the Dead Space Remake were revealed recently by Electronic Arts (EA). Courtesy of IGN, the gameplay showed off the original game’s iconic opening scene from 2008 albeit with noticeable changes. The game is running at 4K at 60 frames per second on PC which certainly makes it a visual delight for all those who want to experience the iconic survival horror game in current-gen hardware.
The opening initially shows off Isaac Clarke conversing with his crew members as they are sent to investigate the USG Ishimura. Just like the original, it doesn’t take long for the horror and bloodshed to begin albeit with more impressive visuals and detailed interiors of the USG Ishimura. The atmosphere is also more eery and silent which makes the game much more immersive than the original. The soundtrack and overall sound design are also worth mentioning as they make the game true to its genre. It is clear that the developers are going all-in with this remake.
Another aspect worth mentioning is the voicing of Isaac Clarke, who wasn’t voiced in the original game. Gunner Wright, who voiced Isaac in Dead Space 2 and 3 is returning to voice the character in the remake. Tanya Clarke also returns to voice Isaac’s girlfriend Nicole Brennan in the game. The animations and visuals are also much more defined and make the game feel more authentic.
The Dead Space Remake is being developed by Motive Studio. The original team at the now defunct Visceral Games including the series co-creator Glen Schofield is not returning for the remake. Instead, Schofield’s new studio has released another survival-horror game titled The Callisto Protocol, which is clearly inspired by the Dead Space series.
