A ‘Plus’ edition of Sonic Origins has reportedly been rated in Korea

A new version of Sonic Origins has reportedly been given a rating in South Korea.

Gematsu reports that the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea has listed the game, titled Sonic Origins Plus, among its recent rating decisions.

Since Sega hasn’t yet officially confirmed Sonic Origins Plus, it’s not clear what the game will contain.

The company has a history of re-releasing Sonic titles with extra content and a ‘Plus’ moniker attached, however.

Sonic Origins – launch trailer

In 2002 it released Sonic Mega Collection on the GameCube, containing all the Sonic games released on the Mega Drive / Genesis. Two years later, it released the compilation on PS2 and Xbox as Sonic Mega Collection Plus, with six Game Gear titles added.

More recently, the publisher released a ‘Plus’ edition of Sonic Mania in 2018, containing a remixed Encore Mode and two new playable characters, Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel.

It could also be that Sonic Origins Plus is simply the base game with its controversial DLC included.

When Sonic Origins released in June 2022 it was accompanied by three DLC packs costing around $5, which included such features as new hard missions, extra music tracks and character animations on the main menu.

Players complained at the time that some of these features, particularly the main menu animations, should have been present in the base game.

Sonic Origins has faced multiple issues since its release. A prominent modder who was working on a large mod for the game even called it “absolute shit” and abandoned the project, saying that the modding process had made it clear to them that the game was in a poor state.
