A Plague Tale: Requiem announces full concert symphony

A Plague Tale: Requiem, widely considered one of the most impressive games in the industry, has just announced a full concert based on the game’s Original Soundtrack. The concert will be livestreamed tomorrow at 6 PM Central European Time (9 AM pacific time), hosted by publisher Focus Entertainment’s official YouTube channel.

Here’s the full statement from A Plague Tale’s Twitter feed, which includes a brief teaser of the concert:

While the teaser is just under a minute, it’s definitely going to hook fans of the game. There is something very tactile about watching an orchestra at work, so it’s certainly a worthwhile investment of your time.

The music for A Plague Tale: Requiem should not be underestimated. The game is absolutely harrowing, grounded by sincere emotional content and well-staged gameplay.

But its environment is key to its success, and a large part of that immersion is owed to the music as well. It can be easy for music to either bolster or utterly compromise the mood of a game, no matter how small or large it is.

Composer Olivier Deriviere clearly outdid himself with this one, crafting music that feels equally nuanced and epic, refusing to get carried away and consistently narrowing down to the characters as needed.

Music is a powerful tool in the gaming industry, and given the nominations that A Plague Tale: Requiem has recently earned, it’s thrilling to see this aspect celebrated. In fact, more concerts like this would probably perform pretty well for a variety of titles, so hopefully it inspires other creators to follow suit.

It’s unclear how long A Plague Tale: Requiem’s symphony will last, or if the original collaborators will all be involved. But the pending video’s description does at least mention Eric-Maria Couturier and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.
